Modern Mediocrity

(There has not been a major technological or social movement since the 1980s. (The internet is a utility it doesn’t count) This is my primary concern with the modern era, we will never reach post modernity)

The mind is a muscle. In the way that there are different ways of lifting, so there are different ways to think. Each useful in its own outlet, certain ways are preferred in modern methods of interacting and working. Everything in modern society boils down to mimicry and test taking. Creative processes have been replaced with reproduction and regurgitation. A lack of technological and artistic development can probably be attributed to this phenomena. This process starts at a young age, carries on to the adolescent, and is compounded in adult age.

Children are educated based on a preset of criteria. Early learning is predicated on learning processes of communicating and quantifying a preset of goals. Building towards a specific set of molds, the youth produced from this process is neither imaginative or creative, but instead productive. The reproduction of systems does not measure intelligence, instead the ability to reproduce criteria. The application of these systems is the goal of the adolescent.

Adolescent learning is a process of application of reproduction and application. Nothing added, but instead quantified. The adolescent learning physics learns process, instead of application of process. When calculating they are given a preset of criteria, and produce similar results. These results are compared and grown in groups. In english, students are given a preset of criteria and written material. Students produce similar narratives and read similar materials without the mechanical knowledge to grow on forms. Even in schedule, the adolescent is limited. Blocks, subjects, and growth are all managed by micro-management. The student is regimented into mediocrity and robot like simulation. The result is cookie cutter citizens that lack the ingenuity to grow on previous forms, discover, and develop societies and networks.

Adults form robotic like social groupings. Work is the primary social outlet. What one does defines how they make money and how a person runs their life. Labor is not an outlet or a political mechanism, but a societal necessity. Work is to live. The citizen participates in social and political affairs as a hobby. Politic operates as sport, with affiliation forming a tribality with relational goals. Winning over outcome is the primary concern. The mechanics of politic is left to the elected body and workings of systems is clandestine in nature. The development of social spheres left to the hobbyist. The largest social and technological movements of our time were accidental in origin. The internet (past the cold war), search engine, and deeper space exploration are handled by entrepreneurs with excess free time and money with profit as a goal. There is no cultural throughput or societal development in this process, but instead competition for already developed mediums of exploration and technological development.

The best result of this system is a society that is dead and autonomous of itself. Running like a conveyor belt into nothing. Simply put, the citizen will wake up one day, and society will be ahead of it to the point of singularity.
