Dysphoria in Utopia/Dystopia
[The world can’t be perfect, and if it is, it is imperfect. We can’t even drink beer or have sex without fucking everything up.]
[The world can’t be perfect, and if it is, it is imperfect. We can’t even drink beer or have sex without fucking everything up.]
The world can not get better and it must die. If it does get better, than it will be an imperfect image of a perfect ideal. Harmony can only exist in a beehive like dynamic without art or literacy. How will we survive, what happened to all the books, why do we keep randomly blowing things up? It is obviously not a problem with creativity or an inceptive problem with how we see the future, the futures ethos problem is purely functional.
What to do with the books?
Burn all the books, is the most accepted answer. If books exist, than people will be too smart and creative. “Fahrenheit 451”, “Black Mirror”, “Oblivion”, the “Giver” and even in “Footlose” the books are screwed. The only way to save the future, is to save the books. Once we save the books people become smart, creative, and more emotionally secure. Each book read, an emancipatory aesthetic act producing the perfect knowledge based freedom fighter.(1) All that is left is to dance, nuke, and slice our way to a higher morality and more enlightened society.

Sex?
Not strictly outlawed, but a strange currency in topias. The most common usage is the underpinning of weird 80s esc sexual paradises. Most dystopias have an undercurrent of sexual existence that spans a 24 hour period. People are essentially fucking somewhere in every corner of a dystopian world. In the Matrix, every major meeting in zion ends with a fuck parade. In utopian worlds sex becomes plastic. People find external mediums to engage sexually. The most hyperbolic example of this is in “Demolition Man” where the two characters engage via 3d helmet. Only by engaging in actual sex, does Sylvester Stallone save the future from mediocre virtual sex and taco bell.

Exposition Juice
The world is either run by geega pets, or in disrepair. In either fashion, alcohol is abundant. We have no food whatsoever, or there is an autocratically run distribution system of resources that favors the elite. The only universal, is access to beverages. Favoring the heavier substances, alcohol serves one purpose, the development of characters and the explaining of plot points. The plot only moves forward after the two main characters have shared at least half a bottle of whiskey and 10 minutes of useless dialog. The future is either run by an incredibly credited tab, or alcoholics with the ability to synthesize beer.
1) The Bible almost ended the world, thank god for a blind samurai alcoholic that can memorize texts in braille.
